Automatically change checklist item statuses⚡️

 

Overview

You can automatically complete a checklist or update checklist item statuses without manual updates using Automation for Jira.

Use cases:

  • ✅ Mark all todo checklist items as done or skipped when an issue is transitioned to Done

  • 📝 Update checklist items to ready for review when an issue moves to Ready for Review

Automation keeps your checklist aligned with your workflow and reduces human error.

 

Automation Action: Set Checklist Item Status new

You can use the Set Checklist Item Status action in Automation for Jira to update checklist items status.

Steps to setup automation rule:

  1. Go to Settings → Automation

  2. Open an existing rule or click Create rule to start a new one.

  3. If you are creating a new rule

    1. Select and configure a Trigger (e.g. Issue transitioned to done ).

  4. When triggers are set up, select Add an action

  5. Search for Set Checklist Item Status

  1. Click Connect

  1. Configure Set Checklist Item Status action:

    • Select From status – the current checklist item status you want to update (e.g., To Do).

    • Select To status – the new status you want to apply (e.g., Done, Skipped).

  1. Name your rule, save it, and turn it on

You're done!✅ Now every time the automation rule is triggered, the checklist items status will be updated.
