Starting from version 2.5.47-AC, the functionality of making items mandatory/non-mandatory is available šŸš€

If you use Jira permissions: grant users Edit Issues (for Company-managed projects), Member or Administrator (for Team-managed projects) permissions to work with mandatory items

Mandatory items help to visually differentiate the items that must be completed and block transitioning a Jira issue into the next status if mandatory items are not completed. The last one will require some additional setup in your workflow.

By default, checklist items are not marked as mandatory. To make items mandatory, you can use the following:

  • context menu of checklist items;

  • full-screen editor;

  • correct format when adding an item from quick mode or updating the Checklists custom field.


Mandatory by context menu of checklist items:

1. If you want to make any of the checklist items mandatory, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on 3 dots for a checklist item and select ā€œMake mandatoryā€:

  1. Check the item - a red asterisk will be added to the upper right corner of the checkbox:

  1. If you are using Smart Checklist for Jira. Free version, ā€œMake mandatory/non-mandatoryā€ option will be disabled and you will see a Pro badge:

2. If you want to make any of the checklist items non-mandatory, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on 3 dots for a checklist item and select ā€œMake non-mandatoryā€:

2. Check the item - a red asterisk will disappear.


3. You can also add mandatory checklist items while creating a new template:
