Convert checklist item to Jira Issue or Sub-task
If your checklist item is worth a separate Jira Issue, have this arranged in a few clicks using the Smart Checklist functionality 🚀
If you use Jira permissions: grant users Edit issues (for Company-managed projects) and
Member or Administrator permission (for Team-managed projects) to convert checklist item to Jira issue
If you use Smart Checklist permissions: grant users Manage Smart Checklist Items permission to convert checklist item to Jira issue

Convert Checklist Item to Jira Issue
You can quickly turn a checklist item into a separate Jira Issue.
1. Select the checklist item you want to convert
Click the 3-dots next to the checklist item status you want to convert to Jira Issue and select “Convert to Jira issue”
2. Fill-in details on Create Issue screen
The Create Issue dialog will open.
When converting a checklist item, Smart Checklist automatically pre-fills several fields:
Description – copies the text from the checklist item details (if added)
Issue link – automatically links the new issue to the source issue
You can adjust any fields before creating the issue.
3. Create the issue
Click Create to create an issue.
After the issue is created:
A link to the new Jira Issue is added to the checklist item
The checklist item is automatically marked as Done
Convert checklist item to Sub-task
You can quickly turn a checklist item into a Jira Sub-task.
1. Select the checklist item you want to convert
Click the 3-dots next to the checklist item status you want to convert to Jira Sub-task and select “Convert to sub-task”
2. Sub-task is created ✅
After the sub-task is created:
A link to the new Jira Issue is added to the checklist item
The checklist item is automatically marked as Done
☝️NOTE: If any required fields are set for sub-tasks, the sub-task creation will fail.
