Migrating Smart Templates to Forge

Overview

Smart Templates is transitioning from Atlassian Connect to Forge – Atlassian’s secure app development platform. With this change, Smart Templates runs entirely on Atlassian infrastructure, meaning all data is stored within Atlassian and is now data residency compliant, with improved security, performance, and compliance.

The migration also brings a few changes you’ll need to be prepared for.

Migration process

Data Migration

Once the app is upgraded, template data migration will begin automatically. You can track the migration progress from the template list in Global Settings or at the Project Level.

The migration typically takes up to an hour to complete, provided there are no complications. As soon as a specific template is migrated, it becomes available for use right away.

✅ Migration Completed

If all templates and historical data are successfully transferred:

• The banner will display a green status.

• Click Acknowledge to dismiss the overlay, no further action is required.

⚠️ Migration Incomplete

If the migration fails:

• You’ll see options to download migration logs and a Retry button (for admins-only).

• Contact support before retrying to avoid further issues.

💡HINT: After the migration is complete, Jira Admins can still access detailed migration status and logs at any time.

To access migration status and logs:

1. Go to Jira Settings → Apps

2. Select Smart Templates in the left-hand menu,

3. Append /admin to the end of the URL in your browser.

🔁 Update Automation Webhooks

If you’ve set up automation rules using webhook links on the Connect version of Smart Templates:

• You need to replace those URLs with new ones generated by the Forge version.

• Otherwise, your automations will no longer work after the transition.
