Add a Checklist to a Subtask on Issue Creation

Add Checklists or Checklist Templates to Subtasks while New Issue creation⚡️

☝🏼IMPORTANT NOTE: Automations using entity properties no longer work with the Forge app. Please update your setup to use the Checklists custom field instead.

☝🏼IMPORTANT NOTE: To ensure the automation rule works when the Checklists custom field is hidden from the work item screen, some additional configuration is required. Please follow these steps to set up the work item layout:

  1. Navigate to Jira Settings → Work items → Custom fields.

  2. Find the Checklists custom field in the list.

  3. Click the 3-dots menu → Associate to Screens.

  4. Select the checkboxes for the screen(s) under the project you want to use automation rule.

  5. Click Update.

  6. Go to Project settings → Work items → Layout.

  7. Click Edit issue layout.

  8. Move Checklists custom field from the central panel to the right panel.

  9. Click Save changes.

Steps to create Automation

  1. Go to Project Settings → Automation → click Create rule

  1. Create a trigger

2.1. Choose Work item created

  1. Add sub-tasks to the Issue

  1. Add Checklist to the sub-tasks

4.1. Click Add fields - your subtask will be converted to a separate action step

4.2. Choose Same Project to be sure the sub-task is not lost

4.3. Add Checklists custom field from Choose fields to set

4.4. Add Checklist Items using checklist Markup formatting or Checklist Template

4.5. Click Next

  1. Name your new Automation and Turn it on

 

You're done! Now every time an Issue is created new sub-tasks with Checklist Items will be created automatically 🎉
